Changes to bus routes 549, W12, W13, W14

Route 549

Bus route 549 will be completely withdrawn and will no longer run between South Woodford and Loughton.

For travel between South Woodford and Loughton, please use the newly extended W14, which will serve the same stops as existing route 549.

Route W12

Bus route W12 will be completely restructured.

The route currently runs between Walthamstow, Coppermill Lane and Wanstead via Walthamstow Central, Walthamstow Village, Whipps Cross Hospital and South Woodford.

Re-routed between Walthamstow Central and South Woodford

Bus route W12 will be re-routed between Walthamstow Central and South Woodford.

W14 will serve most of the same stops as existing W12 between Whipps Cross bus stand and South Woodford station.

W12 and W14 will switch roads served between Wanstead or Whipps Cross and South Woodford.

Re-routed between Wanstead, Whipps Cross and Woodford

The route will be re-routed to run between Wanstead and Woodford Bridge via Snaresbrook, South Woodford, Charlie Brown's Roundabout and Woodford Broadmead Road, serving the same stops as existing route W14.

Travelling to or from Walthamstow Village

Route W12 will no longer serve Walthamstow Village. This is so we can increase the frequency of our service on W12 while protecting the Low Traffic Neighbourhood in this area.

No buses will serve existing Hail and Ride sections of roads on Church Lane, Church End, Vestry Road, East Avenue, Wingfield Road, Grosvenor Park Road, Pembroke Road, Orford Road, Beulah Road or Addison Road.

Instead, W12 will be diverted to serve Hoe Street, Church Hill and Prospect Hill.

For travel between Walthamstow Village and Walthamstow Coppermill Lane, use alternative bus routes 20, 55, 69, 230, 257, W15 or W19 via Hoe Street. You can change between these routes and re-routed W12 in Walthamstow bus station.

For travel between Walthamstow Village and Whipps Cross bus stand, use re-routed W12 from stops on Shernhall Street. Alternatively, use re-routed W12 from stops on Church Hill or Prospect Hill.

Travelling to and from Whipps Cross

Route W12 will continue to serve stops on Hospital Road for Whipps Cross Hospital. It will no longer loop around Whipps Cross Hospital via James's Lane and part of Whipps Cross Road. It will not serve stops E, H, S or T on Whipps Cross Road.

For travel to or from Whipps Cross Road

Use bus route 257. Change between routes 257 and W12 at Whipps Cross bus stand.

Until Thursday 31 October, route 257 will stop short of its final destination from first bus until 20:00 each day. This is due to temporary works in Walthamstow bus station.

For travel from stops on Whipps Cross Road towards Walthamstow Coppermill Lane

Use bus route 257 from either stops H or S.

  • For stops as far as Bakers Arms, stay on route 257
  • For stops between Bakers Arms and Walthamstow bus station, use route 257 to Bakers Arms and wait at the same stops for routes 20, 230, W15 or W19 
  • For stops beyond Walthamstow bus station, alight at Whipps Cross bus stand stop G. Walk about 50 meters to bus stand stop M for newly-rerouted W12

For travel from Walthamstow to Whipps Cross Road

Use bus route W12 and alight at Whipps Cross stop V. Wait at the same stop for route 257.

Travelling between Walthamstow Coppermill Lane and Snaresbrook

Route W12 will no longer serve two stops on Lea Bridge Road near Hainault Court or Snaresbrook Road - use newly re-routed W14 instead.

To change from route W12 to W14 towards Snaresbrook

Use bus route W12. Alight at Whipps Cross stop V and wait at the same stop for route W14.

To change from route W14 to W12 towards Walthamstow

Use bus route W14. Alight at Whipps Cross stop V and walk about 50 metres to stop M for route W12.

Changes to timetable

We're also changing the frequency of our services on route W12, which will run:

  • every 15 minutes (instead of every 30 minutes) during the daytime Monday to Saturdays
  • every 20 minutes (instead of every 30 minutes) in the evenings and all day Sundays

Route W13

Route W13, which currently runs between Woodford Wells and Leytonstone, will be extended to Leyton Superstores (for Leyton Mills Retail Park) via Leytonstone High Road and Leyton.

It will serve the same stops as existing route W14.

Newly extended route W13 will serve Leytonstone station (towards Leyton Superstores only).

For northbound buses from Leytonstone station towards Woodford Wells, use routes 66 or 145 from stop T outside Leytonstone station. Alight at stop M on High Road Leytonstone. Wait at the same stop for route W13 towards Woodford Wells. Alternatively, it is about 330 metres walk between stops T and M.

We're also changing some frequencies on route W13, which will run:

  • every 15 minutes (instead of every 20 minutes) during the daytime Saturdays
  • every 20 minutes (instead of every 30 minutes) in the evenings and all day Sundays

Route W14

Route W14, which currently runs between Leyton Superstores and Woodford Bridge will be completely restructured to run between Whipps Cross and Loughton.

It will run via Snaresbrook, Wanstead, South Woodford, Charlie Brown's Roundabout, Woodford, Roding Valley and Buckhurst Hill.

It will serve Hail and Ride sections of Nightingale Lane, Grosvenor Road, Stanstead Road, Elmcroft Avenue, Colvin Gardens, Charnwood Drive and stops S or T on Hermon Hill.

It will continue to serve stops C and D on George Lane (South Woodford station east).

It will not serve stops H and G on George Lane (South Woodford station west).

It will no longer stop directly outside Wanstead station.

For travel between Leyton Superstores and Wanstead, use newly extended route W13, which will serve the same stops as existing route W14.

For travel between Wanstead and South Woodford, W12 and W14 will switch roads served between Wanstead and South Woodford.

For travel between South Woodford and Woodford Bridge, use newly re-routed W12, which will serve the same stops as existing route W14.

Changes to timetable

We're also changing the frequency of our services on route W14, which will run:

  • every 60 minutes all day every day

Travelling between Wanstead or Whipps Cross and South Woodford

We're switching most roads served by routes W12 and W14 between Wanstead, Whipps Cross and South Woodford.

There will be no change to W13 between Wanstead and South Woodford.

For Woodford Road, High Road or George Lane, use newly re-routed W12, which will serve the same stops as existing route W14.

For Hermon Hill or George Lane, continue to use route W13.

  • For Hail and Ride sections of Nightingale Lane, Grosvenor Road, Stanstead Road, Elmcroft Avenue, Colvin Gardens, Charnwood Drive or stops S and T on Hermon Hill and George Lane, use newly re-routed W14, which will serve the same stops as existing route W12.

For Wanstead station, use routes W12 or W13. Alternatively, walk from the newly re-routed W14 Hail and Ride section of Nightingale Avenue. Or you can change between routes W12 and W14 at Snaresbrook station.

For travel between Woodford Road and Whipps Cross via Snaresbrook Road and Lea Bridge Road, change between W12 and W14 at Snaresbrook station.
